Delve Into History

Historic New Bern offers a variety of cultural, educational, recreational and historical attractions. With over 150 historic landmarks it’s an ideal destination for those simply in search of fun or for a glimpse into history. Here, in the second oldest city in North Carolina, the past meets the present and invites visitors to sample its richness.

See What Inspired Nicholas Sparks

Quite a few of our guests are fans of Nicholas Sparks, the author of many books including The Wedding, The Notebook, Nights in Rodanthe, Message in a Bottle, A Bend in the Road and others—many of which have become major motion pictures. Most are based in New Bern and the coastal area of North Carolina that Nicholas calls home. We have a self-guided walking tour featuring most of the places mentioned in his novels that are within a short stroll of The Aerie.
